MBA Re-applicant Assessment Service
![]()
The first step in evaluating an unsuccessful application is to get direct feedback from MBA schools themselves. Some will give you that feedback, most probably won’t. (Your chances are better if you are on a waitlist.) But even for those that will, you will likely have to wait several weeks to a few months, shrinking your first-round time window for showing significant growth. Even if you are re-applying in later rounds, creating and executing your personal growth plan often requires time to show results, and so getting a fresh look early at your application is crucial.
My MBA Re-applicant Assessment service will give you a comprehensive and detailed written diagnostic of your entire application, including your resume, essays, letters of recommendation (if available), and application. We will also discuss the diagnostic during a 50-minute consultation via Skype, which will also give me a chance to assess your real-time communication/interview abilities.
While every individual application is different, when I’m evaluating written materials I’m generally looking at the following factors:
- Foundation: Are your test scores appropriate for your target school? Do you have solid professional experience? Are your goals detailed, realistic and ambitious? Did you answer the other essay questions appropriately and specifically? Are your materials presented in a professional manner?
- Problematic: Have you addressed any areas of concern in your application, such as low test scores or GPA, inconsistent work history, or current unemployment (less of an issue in recent times, but still needs to be explained).
- Subtle: Are your stories complete, i.e., do they answer “how” and “why” so that a reader is left with no questions? Do your application materials when viewed as a set provide a comprehensive profile of you? Are they integrated and consistent or do they contain contradictions? Are they balanced to show both your professional and personal sides? Do they reveal a unique personality or unintentionally reveal personality flaws? Did you take any risks in your application, by including humor perhaps or an unusual topic? How honest were you when evaluating your own strengths, weaknesses and failures? And the biggest question of all: how self-aware are you?
Clearly, the subtle factor is where I provide the biggest value to re-applicants, since these problems are by definition the hardest to detect. But I won’t just point out the problems, I’ll give you clear and practical suggestions for fixing or eliminating them. In many cases I can identify missed connections or deeper possibilities that will help snap everything into focus.
The cost of the assessment, including written diagnostic and 50-minute Skype consultation, is JPY50,000 or US$500.00. And if you decide to work with me under one of my comprehensive consulting packages, that cost will be deducted from the package cost.
